Effective 2026-09-14
These are the terms under which Peter Cerno (“we”) offers Beletria to you. By creating an account or using the app you agree to them. If you do not, please do not use it.
What Beletria is
A reading app for language learners: public-domain books in the language you are learning, with translations, explanations and narration that are generated ahead of time by language models and text-to-speech systems, and a place to save the words you look up.
Your account
You sign in with Google and are responsible for what happens under your account. You must be at least 16. You can delete your account at any time from the Account page; what that removes is described in the Privacy Policy.
Acceptable use
Use the app to read. Do not scrape it, overload it, probe or circumvent its access controls, or use it to build a competing dataset. We limit request rates and may suspend an account that abuses the service.
The content
- The books are selected as public-domain works in our operating jurisdiction. Copyright status can differ by country; check the rules that apply where you use them. You may read them here freely; their availability in Beletria grants no rights beyond those the public domain already gives everyone.
- The translations, explanations, cover images and narration are generated automatically (a cover is occasionally supplied by hand). They are aids to reading, not authoritative translations. They can be wrong — a mistranslated idiom, a misleading grammar note, an odd pronunciation — and the thumbs beside them exist so you can tell us. Do not rely on them where a mistake would matter.
- What you contribute — feedback, ratings, book requests — you allow us to use to improve the app.
Availability and changes
Beletria is free, offered as is, and run by a very small team. We may change or remove features, books or the service itself, and we do not promise it will always be available. Paid plans, if they come, will be described before you are asked to pay for anything.
Liability
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for loss arising from errors in generated content or from the service being unavailable. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including for intent or gross negligence.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of Switzerland, and the place of jurisdiction is Zurich, subject to mandatory jurisdiction rules. If you are a consumer in the European Union, you also keep the protection of the mandatory consumer law of the country where you live, and the right to bring a claim in your own courts.
Changes to these terms
Updates are published here with a revised effective date. For material changes, we will provide any notice and obtain any agreement required by applicable law. Changes do not remove mandatory consumer rights.
